About WisWoodsWater

Wisconsin Woods and Water is an ongoing exploration of the natural landscapes of our state.

I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I started learning plants around 1994, with an old field guide and a hand lens. I did my first prairie burn in 1995, with The Prairie Enthusiasts.

As a field botanist and restoration ecologist, I’ve done plant surveys across Wisconsin, on forests, prairies and wetlands. I’ve done botanical work and research in California, Montana, Nevada, Minnesota, Michigan, and Massachusetts.

My research has focused on the phylogenetics and ecology of Sparganium.
