Discovering Wisconsin’s Bur-reeds

In the middle of winter, it’s both a great time to explore aquatic habitats – BY ICE – and to reflect on the amazing diversity of life found in lakes, streams, marshes. And remember some of the cool, soggy spots I’ve been to around Wisconsin in the search for bur-reeds. It is nice to see the rich greens and blues of a watery habitat in summer, this time of year.

Here’s a presentation I originally gave at the Wisconsin Wetlands Science Conference in 2014, with some subsequent updates, incorporating new scientific research and understanding of Sparganium.
