Emerald Ash Borer

All the ash trees in this forest near Ann Arbor are dead. Why? the emerald ash borer. A tiny insect that tunnels through the bark of the tree, killing it. It is coming our way – in fact it’s already in Wisconsin. Its presence was first discovered in SE Michigan in 2002, where its devastation is most pronounced.

On a lighter note, I found many trout lilies blooming in the same woods.
